I hit a car in a parking lot a week ago, but there was no damage at all to the other car. However, my car was slightly damaged, and I waited for the other driver so I could tell my side of the story. Unfortunately, I was late for class, so I forgot to leave a note. This is in California, so will I go to jail for not leaving a note? I want to confess to security, but I'm afraid I'll be sent to jail...

This is a case of "no harm, no foul". If there really was no damage to the other car, then you did not harm the owner in any way, and have nothing to confess!

If the issue is raised, explain to the police and they should be fine, especially if only you were damaged. The worse thing is an increase in your payments

Don't sweat it, bro. Five years ago, during my sophomore year of college, I hit a parked car in a parking lot (just like you) and I just took off without even checking to see if there was damage to the other car.

If there was no damage to the other vehicle the only person who suffered any loss is yourself. You can file a claim with your insurance company to fx your car, but you'll probably come out cheaper in the long run to just pay for the repairs out of pocket.

The sooner you tell the truth the better. The longer you wait the less they will believe the "I forgot to leave a note, I was late for class" story.

Fleeing the scene of a crime is a felony. You didn't flee the scene of a crime, you left the scene of a car accident. Unless you killed someone or ran someone over, you're not going to jail. You should tell security just in case someone came up to them about damage to their car. But, as you stated, there was no damage to their car so probably no big deal. Although, telling security would be the right thing to do - you won't get in trouble.

No...no proof unless there was a camera around.
