I have a Dell 3500 inspiron. unfortunatly it is plagued with viruses and spywear and other yuckie stuff like that. it is suppost to be running windows 98, but it has windows xp on it. how do i cheap and efficently get rid of all the yuckie viruses and reinstall windows 98. i dont current have a copy of win 98. any ideas?

First of all: Microsoft no longer supports Windows 98 and therefore getting a copy of Windows 98 may be next to impossible for you, especially a copy that has the drivers required for your Dell Laptop.
Secondly: If Windows XP was installed to use NTFS, you are going to have to use another copy of WinXP to change the file system back to FAT 32 before Windows 98 or Windows ME will install, because they cannot read a hard drive that has a NTFS file system installed on it.
Your best bet maybe to get an antivirus program and install it and try to clean the viruses off of the computer. If you can get online, you might try downloading the YOP from Yahoo, provided your ISP is AT&T or VOL.

If your computer is plagued with spyware and viruses then it is best to get a scanner to delete them, You need to turn off your system restore.
It is near impossible to reinstall Windows 98 without the Operating CD. You might be able to buy an authentic CD from a third party site, or you can get it from another method (not going to explain other method)
For viruses you might need:

and for spyware I think you might need a malware remover.

When you download and install:
restart your computer hit F5 and run the scans in safe mode.

You have to take it back to stock (uninstall and get rid of everything on there) word Docs, pics, programs etc. Happened to mine. then you have to get a virus blocking program (Not online) like windows one care. and install that. DO NOT use online banking or anythign like that when you have those viruses
