As far as the lock-up goes, many people just install a toggle switch on their dashboard. The torque converter only really needs to be unlocked when you are at a stop.

If the 350 has a short tail shaft it the 700 will be longer. If it is a long tailshaft 350 it will exchange. You will need to move the crossmember back as the 700 case is longer and has a short tail shaft. The short 350 tail is about 5" and the long is about 8".
The 700 is a direct bolt up to the engine in the car but has a lock up torque converter that will need to be adressed and will need the proper throttle cable from the trans to the carb.

To the guy with the TH350 who doesn't know why people do this - because he says he turns lower RPM at 65 than a 700R4......

Any 700R4-car that is turning higher RPMs than you are at 65MPH with your 3-speed then obviously has a low (high-numerically) rear-end and would then kick your *** in acceleration. Sorry, but 3 is not equal to 4.

By your logic, 5 or 6-speed trannys have no advantage, and we should all drive 3-on-the-tree. HA HA HA!!

Btw; Lexus offers an ***8-speed*** auto in their high-line cars. Guess they're full of crap by your logic eh?

TH350 is shorter than the 700 so yea you need a new driveshaft or have yours extended. it will bolt up normal to the engine. also the output shaft is different so getting a new driveshaft makes more sense but you could get different yokes and have then welded in.

drive shaft will be the easy part of swap over .The 700-r4 uses a elec control sol to lock up the torque conv.the trans that you use will have to have a special sw and wiring inside trans to make the lock up work properly. If the lock up feature does not work trans overheating can result. You may already know this ,but i thought i would just remind you.

you will need to shorten your driveshaft, there are shops around that will do that for you but get someone that knows how to measure the proper length before you modify it.

idk why people do this, they say the overdrive is so nice...well i have a th350 and idk if it's just the way the rear end is geared or what...but it runs lower rpms at 65 than a 700R4 ever did, so i really don't have a need for overdrive.
