Frank Thomas will be a HR or nothing type of guy. He is a major liability on the bases and his bat speed is not the same it was. (I watched him all year last year) as an A's fan. He is a great infulance on the team but don't be shocked if he does not repeat what he did last year.......

I didn't see this move coming at all, nor did any Blue Jay fan. Our pressing needs is in the starting rotation, a set up guy, a catcher and possibly a shortstop....
UNLESS, this is a pre-cursor to another move that Richardi has up his sleeve. Ted Rogers (owner of the jays) gave Richardi an undisclosed amount of cash to add to the payroll. If this contract was just a small portion of that amount, then it could attract some of the others to stay put, and still have the money to re-sign them (Wells, Lilly). Lilly will be asking for much more than he's worth. I doubt the Jays will be seriously looking to resign him. Wells is who they want.
This was Thomas's first fairly healthy year since 2003. As long as he can get 450-500 at bat's I think he'll put up decent numbers.
sidenote, the guy hit 39 homeruns and ONLY 11 doubles? WOW.

Frank Thomas, if he puts on a performance like he did in 2006, will make the Blue Jays a close contender for 2007. The Jays finished in second place this year, and with a hall of fame bat added to their line up, they will probably compete closely with the Sox/Yanks.
This is coming from an educated Sox fan, I am nervous.
Lilly will certainly be resigned. He was a huge part of this ball club, and Vernon Wells as well. However, there is a slight chance Wells may be traded.

For the idiot that said that it will help the jays be in third place obviously hasn't watched Toronto Blue Jays Baseball. We were 87-75.That's more wins than the fluke Cardinals. If we made it in the postseason and faced your weak team, we would own your ***.
Also the guy above who said Toronto is not good at sports doesn't know that the Maple Leafs have won more Stanley Cups than your Boston team. In fact the Canadians and Toronto have first and second in Stanely Cups.
Why be a Red Sox fan. I mean they choked in the one game playoff, they choked in 86, they choked in 03, they sold Babe Ruth and got nothing, they had to wait 86 years to win the world series they suck!
Blue Jays own the red sux.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. This is a dilly of a pickle gamble that could go either way. My personal feeling is that Frankie is going to hurt is calf while rounding second after a home run. Personally I think that this move isn't something that Jays fans should be THRILLED about. Old timers aren't always the answer in Toronto. Leafs fans should know that from experience with Ed Belfour, Owen Nolan, and the return of Doug Gilmore,,,LoL!!! I hope this move goes right down the drain.
Albert my friend,,, I don't think our Sox of too much to worry about. Always have faith and confidence. by the way,, we could be getting something big in return for Manny! :) Toronto SUCKS for all sports,,, PERIOD!

I don't think that signing a 38 year old DH, who's obviously on the downside of his career, will help sign Wells, who wants to play close to home. Also, Lilly supposedly wants to play on the West Coast, and with the dearth of starting pitching, will make much more on the open market than he would by staying in Toronto. I don't really think that anything Toronto does will prevent them from finishing behind the Yankees again.

No. evaluate how Thomas replaced into addressed: did not attempt to commerce him, did not DFA him and take the ten days to handle ideas, only without delay-out released him. GMs who make a lot of those strikes must be able to do it without second wondering, or they are contained in the incorrect interest. And, given it took Thomas a month to smack yet another homer (and, sure, 4 in quick succession, that is magnificent), it hasn't been all that awesome for Oakland, except on a in step with-unit fee foundation, when you consider that they are paying him peanuts.
