During an abortion, the mother is given pain medication, and sometimes put to sleep. However, the first souple of weeks after the abortion, it can be very painful. The reason for this is that they are removing tissues from the inside of her reproductive organs. If you had someone sticking medical instruments up your 'area' and pulling stuff out, wouldnt you be sore for a while? Some women experience heavy bleeding for the first few weeks after wards. But, an abortion doesnt only hurt physically, but emotionally as well. Many women have a number of emotional problems after abortion, even if they wanted the abortion in the first place.

Hi there,
In order to expel the tissue the uterus has to contract..like the contractions you feel as cramps during a period. Every legitimate doctor out there would give a patient a novocaine type injection in the cervix (this way you are unable to feel the dilation or opening necessayr to proceed). Also they would give a patient IV sedation ..something like a phentanyl/valium combination, so that althoug you're awake you have no pain and little memory of the procedure. Any clinic has social workers who can go over the procedure in detail with the patient. Ask as many questions as you need, and the best of luck to you.

They don't put you to sleep if it is a early term abortion. It doesnt hurt much. Outside of the emotional pain, the real physical pain comes about 6 weeks after, when you get your period, cramps feel like nothing that you have ever felt before, and you will bleed for about 2 weeks straight.

There is no such thing as a safe abortion. It kills the baby every time.
Does it hurt? Well, most abortions work by tearing the baby's tiny to bits.....I would imagine it would be a bit painful.
Oh....were you asking about for the mother of the baby? That depends...if she can afford to pay twice as much for the abortion they will sedate her while they kill her baby.
But, if she is like most women and can not afford to have the sedation, yes, it hurts like the devil. I have heard women screaming while the nurses tell them it is almost over.
Curious huh? why?

A friend of mine had an abortion, and to the person who said they put you to sleep....they don't. She was very uncomfortable, and it hurt her a little. She had pain after the procedure as well. But it's not all physical....it's emotional pain also. My friend had this done a year and a half ago, and she is still a bit depressed from it.

not sure if it hurts the mom... but i know for sure that the baby usually already has a brain so it would most definately hurt the baby
(not because its a baby and it is murder- although it is... but you need actual facts tp support it... actually read up on the weekly developmental process during pregnancy... it should make everyone thing at least twice before abortion

yes it does as they normaly have to at least put under anesthetic for it during the proceedure and when the anthesia wears off your insides burn, plus periods come with problems after it and if done wrong the uterus can go septic or be perforated. and yes it hurts the baby too, as they kill the baby with nothing to dull the pain.

I have not had an abortion but i have read about it because my sister was thinking about having one but changed her mind.
To me the abortion pill sounds far more painful than a surgical abortion.
