Let's see.

They helped Rush Limbaugh stay out of prison by keeping his records private.

June 9, 2004: ACLU of Nebraska files a lawsuit on behalf of a Muslim woman barred from a public pool because she refused to wear a swimsuit.

June 3, 2004: Under pressure from the ACLU of Virginia, officials agree not to prohibit baptisms on public property in Falmouth Waterside Park in Stafford County.

May 11, 2004: After ACLU of Michigan intervened on behalf of a Christian Valedictorian, a public high school agrees to stop censoring religious yearbook entries.

March 25, 2004: ACLU of Washington defends an Evangelical minister's right to preach on sidewalks.

February 21, 2003: ACLU of Massachusetts defends students punished for distributing candy canes with religious messages.

October 28, 2002: ACLU of Pennsylvania files discrimination lawsuit over denial of zoning permit for African American Baptist church.

July 11, 2002: ACLU supports right of Iowa students to distribute Christian literature at school.

April 17, 2002: In a victory for the Rev. Jerry Falwell and the ACLU of Virginia, a federal judge strikes down a provision of the Virginia Constitution that bans religious organizations from incorporating.

They defend the minority from the majority. You may find yourself in the minority someday too.

The American Civil Liberties Union holds the government and politicians accountable when they want to suppress people's constitutional rights and liberties.

Remember - these rights need not be defended for the majority because the majority will always stand up for itself. Rather, the rights of the minority need to be defended against the tyranny of the majority.

That is why the ACLU represents people whom you say make you sick, such as known terrorists or illegal aliens. If it didn't, and their constitutional liberties and rights can be abridged, who is to say that the next time YOUR rights and liberties won't be abridged.

Also another one of the posters pointed out some of the lawsuits that have not made national news that the ACLU has defended. Maybe you should stop focusing on what conservative publications and pundits decry about the ACLU and see this organization for the prize that it is.

What the ACLU does is prevent the government from ignoring the requirements of the Constitution, and stops local govts from ignoring federal laws.

It's easy to believe that laws should apply when the people being hurt are the prom queen or the local pastor. It's a lot harder to stand up for the law when the people whose rights are being violated are accused child molestors or illegal immigrants.

But unless the government is required to obey the law all the time, regardless of who the govt is attacking, the law ceases to have meaning.

While I rarely agree with the people the ACLU represents, I'm glad they are forcing the government to obey the laws all the time. Becuase the alternative is no rights for anyone.

I'm sorry that freedom makes you sick. If you went to school you should have learned that freedom and rights are GAURANTEES, and justice is BLIND.

If suspected terrorists had no rights then you could take away anyone's rights just by accusing them of terrorism.

If you believe that our rights are "endowed by our creator" then they should apply to everyone, right? Even foreigners?

If you start reading AMERICAN history you will realize that some of the worst travesties of justice started with taking away the rights of "undesirables", once they got through the courts, those abuses were broadened to affect innocent people like you. An example is the Alien and Sedition acts.

PLEASE read history. If we don't stop injustice when it first starts (always with the criminals and undesirables) then it will expand and threaten you and your family.

I SUPPORT THE ACLU.

The ACLU is protecting the rights people have in the United States, if you don't like that, change the law.

Seem they are doing very good thing. The House of White Lies and Terrorism is in Washington DC under that white elephant. You must see who is real terrorists and who is doing terrorism. Did Iraq attack USA? Did OBL do 9/11? No he didn't at all. He actually condemned it as appeared next day in Pakistan mewspapers. 9/11 is a vertical excavation done by dynamites. It was a justification created by Bush and Co. So he is a seriall killer and murderer, not only for people in WTC but also in Iraq and Afghanistan on both sides. We need more voices of conscince in this jungle of White Elephants and Donkeys (Jack ****esses) we do not need Sub-Animal Materialism (SAM), wqe need true humanity and humane values. Go for turth and don't be biased by yellow jaudiced media!

You obviously dont understand the concept of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech means all speech is protected, not just speech you like. The ACLU defends freedom from people like you who dont understand what freedom really means. Thats why they're called the American CIVIL LIBERTIES Union.

Anyone suspected of terrorism that has had a fair trial and been convicted I say have no mercy. Unfortunately, there are cases of innocent people accused of being terrorists who really are not. But for the most part I hate the ACLU.

The ACLU is like the mafia. They create problems, and then they say you need us to help you.
