Nothing added to the gas will clean a carb..... nothing...

It does (try this first though) sound like a carb problem....
try keeping it going with the gas cap removed.....no difference? then try without the air filter (do not mow with the filter off) no difference? then try keeping it running, spraying a quick shot of starting fluid every couple seconds into the carb..... if it keeps on running until you stop..... yes, its the carb....
The carb will (to do it right) have to be taken off.... torn apart (a carb kit bought) soaking in carb cleaner overnight, then all holes blown out with compressed air.... and rebuilt using the kit...

Just spraying carb cleaner in the gas.... or in the carb while its running will in fact... be a waste of money, time and effort....

Have you looked underneath to see if it needs cleaning out? Sometimes it gets full of grass clippings and can't turn....also it may need an oil change....or it could have water in the gas tank...If you can find a repairman that specializes in lawn mowers, give him a call and let him check it out. I have had a time with lawn mowers and it is so aggravating...I finally went and bought a new one at Walmart...so far so good...

Sounds like a gas problem. Get some carbrator cleaner and add it to the gas. then take the air cleaner off and squirt some gas into the carberator and start mower. You may have to do this several times untill the carberator gets cleaned. The mower will run on the gas you squirt down the carberator

This is a common problem with this type of mower, and one that to date the manufacturers have failed to address properly. It happens because you stop pushing, apparently. If you push again, having pushed and then stopped pushing, you will find that the mower will miraculously spring momentarily back to life.
