Since they don't want to be with you anymore then give them the best gift for the holidays.

Of course it's mean. Even though couples hate each other and are divorcing, they both tend to think about the times it was good between them, and wonder why it didn't last. Many of those good memories are around holidays. Serving papers at this time only deepens the despair of having to go through the divorce, even though both parties agree to the split. Divorce is a tough time, don't cram your partners face into the ground unless you want to.

They were planning to serve me on Christmas Eve. I found out about it and had the sheriff serve her at work. I wrecked their holidays as they had planned to ruin mine
But the event was sad in any case. The divorce dragged and the decree was issued in the following year, ON APRIL FOOL'S DAY. To this day, I doan no who the fool was.

Yes, I think it is mean if you are leaving on decent terms. On the other hand, if either one of you has cheated or been abusive in other ways, go for it! I waited until after the new year to serve my ex because I didn't want to spoil his Christmas. He was still mad, but I think it was better.

Not really. Most people know it's coming before it happens anyway. Prolonging it is meaner.
