The personal representative (executor) is the one that distributes the assets according to the instructions in the will....not the trustee.

Sometimes the executor will distribute the assets into a trust and a trustee with then manage those assets inside the trust (select investments, distribute income, etc.), but most of the time a trustee is never envolved.

If the estate and will are fairly straightforward, then it shouldn't take that long for the executor to begin distributing at least some of the assets.

Check with the probate department in the county where you live. Someone should be able to help you. In most cases, I don't think there is a time limit unless stated in the will.
