1) Have you ever heard of distemper virus before? Yes we had a couple of dogs with distemper when I was younger.
2) Do you have pets? Yes What kind of animal are they? Cats Have they ever been vaccinated against Distemper? Yes
3) Who/What gets distemper? I believe animals are the only ones that get it.

6) Distemper is not dangerouse because it is just a virus? I don't really remember how bad it was, but some dogs had to be put down because it was so bad. We got them from the SPCA and didn't know back then they were sick.
I am 44 and my parents were the caregivers of the dogs and they are no longer here to ask them, sorry. Hope that helps. :)

Hi, I know a bit about distemper. I'm 47 years old,and when I was a kid, I had a dog that had distemper. We had purchased her from our local pound, and about two weeks after having her, she started foaming at the mouth, and running around in circles.(literally) I remember freaking out and calling my dad home from work,terrified to go near this dog. He brought her to the vet, and we learned she had distemper.This is a virus, which untreated will lead to rabies. This virus has stages, and if caught very early, it can be treated (very costly,even back then) successfully. Keep in mind this is a rabies virus, so most animals are not treated in time, and must be destroyed. Distemper is not contagious to humans,however, rabies is, if bitten. I believe only cats and dogs can contract distemper. And yes, I have pets. (Always have. ) I have a cocker spaniel dog, and my parents, who have an apartment in my basement, have a poodle dog, and two cats. I hope I have been of some help to you. Good luck with your project, and stay in school.Oh, by the way, yes all our animals are always vaccinated against distemper.

4)The family chocolate Lab, Shiloh, had distemper and she had to be put down.

6) Distemper caused Shiloh to have seizures. So yes, it is dangerous. I don't know where you heard that from. Just cuz something is a virus doesn't make it not dangerous. AIDS is a virus.
