No, you need to make that decision yourself.

The rating-authorities operate like this: Oooo, it is animated... must be for kids...

Seriously, I love The Simpsons, and I let my son (7) watch it, but only if I watch it with him. It may be a cartoon, and the characters may be cute and whatever, but it can still be disturbing (cf Itchy & Scratchy). Think about it like this: If it was not animated, and the characters were played by real actors, the rating would be a lot higher.

And to the respondent who reckons that kids don't get the jokes: Grow up. Most children are way more intelligent than people like you give them credit for. There are subtle jokes that may seem confusing to them, but I know lots of Adults that don't get jokes too - it has nothing to do with their age.

I know what you mean, I haven't seen much of The Simpsons, only about 10 episodes since it's been going. The other evening my 6 & 7 year old where watching it and I was shocked. It's not a kids cartoon.

I'm happy for them to watch Spongebob & Fosters Home. Even Ed, Edd & Eddie has a moral behind it. The best one I've seen so far is My Gym Partners a Monkey.

some Simpson's DVDs i have are rated pg and some are rated 12 so i guess the age is about 11+. but i was watching it with my niece yesterday and she's two and a half and loves it. i think when they are that young that just like it because it's a cartoon.

Most are Parental Guidance, so short answer "No, that's what Parental Guidance means."
Parents may wish to stop children watching them, but I mean; come on. Why in world would you stop a child watching the Simpson's. One; children hardly get the humour. & if they did, the Simpsons haven't done that, something else has & the children have recognised the humour in the cartoon.
Two; The Simpsons brought me up, & hasn't done any harm to me what-so-ever. Infact, I think the Simpsons are a cultural reference i use on a number of occasions. Thus in a social situation, I can find common ground with my fellow man.

On a side note, some episodes are 12 rating. But, I refer to my earlier argument. Kids don't get the humour. They really really don't. it may seem rude to you. They're just watching it for the slapstick. Not the linguistic humour.

So come on. Lay off your kids & let them watch the show.

Ps. All my age ratings are UK. I don't know what it is in America, but you guys are prudes anyway, so I guess it's a 13 all thetime. (PG in UK is less than 12, but one step up from Baby. To compare, 'Cars' was a PG. 'Toy Story' was a PG.)

If you are not prepared to watch something with your kids you should not let your kids watch TV at all.
To allow them to watch something you disapprove of is not a good thing, but to disapprove of something without experiencing it is basically just prejudiced. The Simpsons is designed for adults because it contains political humour and some slight sexual references.
When I was a kid my mother or father would always watch the TV with me so they could explain things or change the channel if the show was unsuitable.

“Lets just plop them in front of the TV. I was raised in front of the TV and I turned out TV” - Homer Simpson.

to maintain their originality, and so the practice won't end. occasion: finished living house stopped exhibiting with the aid of fact the toddlers grew up. The Simpsons do no longer advance older and right here they're after two decades =]

i dont think you should worry too much on your kids watching the simpsons. yes, if it was south park, but it's the simpsons. they say such subtle things that you wont catch it as a child but when you grow up and watch it again then you get the jokes. i grew up with the simpsons since it came out when i was like 9. and i'm a huge fan till this day~!!

The Simpsons is about as harmful as, er, something harmless!! The Simpsons is the most cleverly written programme on television, so let them watch to their hearts content! They might even learn something!
