if you are referring to Germany gaining it's "freedom" via the process of becoming a unified nation of German peoples, you'll definitely want to research the Prussian Prime Minister and diplomat, Otto von Bismark. Bismark is one of the most prominent historical figures assosciated with the rise of German nationalism and the formation of a unified Germany, which took place during the later half of the 19th century.

Hi, it greatly depends what they meant by Its "independence"/freedom.
You have the formation of Germany during the late 1800s from a union of many smaller states.
You have the unification of Germany after it was divided into an east half and an western half after world war two.
I would say, you should look for books in your library on the end of the cold war. On the internet as well.
Key terms you could try:
-- Berlin Wall
-- Fall of the Soviet Union
-- Cold War.
Ronald Reagan, George H. Bush, Gorbachev.
If you look in Wiki on Germany, I'm sure they have a summary.

search google on Berlin Wall
Do you men how was East Germany reunited with West Germany when the Berlin wall was knocked down in 1989?
Germany was partitioned by the allies after WWII to keep it from ever threatening Europe again. The wall was erected in 1961
by Soviet Communist party which controlled East Germay. WG was free. The fall of the wall was the first step toward German reunification, which became official on October 3, 1990.

Well which time period are you referring too?
Germany has for many 1000s' of years been an area of baronies and estates. It wasn't until the 1850's it actually started to become a nation. And then it wasn't until 1890 or so and prussians that it could be recognized as a nation. check out Fritz Stern's writings and a history book on the Renaissance to WWI.
