I went out ot my 2002 Chevy Impala tonight and found a puddle of water in the front passenger side floor (no anti-freeze). I haven't had any problem with the heat or defrost, just this all of a sudden. My father says it may be the heater core, my friends at auto zone said it may be the hoses that come through the fire wall into the dash. How do I know which one it is? Also, are heater cores expensive and how long does it take to replace, I'm going to Columbus tomorrow to get ready for the Ohio State/Michigan game and I wanted to drive. Thankx

As a matter of fact it is raining, my friend said the same thing happened to her Taurus when it rained and it was her blower motor.-- Also, I only press the rear defrost button I usually use my shirt sleeve for the windshield.

have you been running the a/c? sometimes the a/c drain tube becomes clogged and won't drain the condensation from the evaporator housing. seeing as how you must be in a cold weather state i would guess you haven't been running the a/c. does the interior of the car have a weird sweet antifreeze smell? are you sure your dog/cat didn't pee on the floor? the heater core usually has 2 nipples on it that protrude through the firewall into the engine compartment. i have never seen hoses that go through the firewall and connect to the core. if it is the heater core that is leaking...you will probably not want to tackle this yourself. seasoned technicians usually throw a fit when they are assigned this job. even if you know what you're doing it can take 4-8 hours. sucks to be you. sorry

If no anti freeze is in the floor suspect the drian for the evap core. anytime you run the defrost the A/C runs and causes condensation. If the tube is stopped up you can usualy clean it out from under the hood without a lot of trouble.

Was it raining?
If it's just water without anti-freese in it, it's most likely not from the heater core as that uses the same coolent as the engine.
If it's not green or red (and antifreeze smells) it's probably a body leak - has it ever been in an accident??

if its been raining then the rain is probably coming in around the windshield, try putting some sealer around the glass, and it could be from the drain hose of the ac,if it gets clogged up then it would come inside.if its just water then its not the heater core.it would look green if it is the core.
