This was in the Daily Mail so I accept the paper has possibly skewed the story to fit their political stance but an unemployed man has fathered 15 children, lives with his wife AND mistress (ok, the women are idiots - not so much his fault. All I can say is that he must be amazing in bed). They are BOTH pregnant again and they receive benefits in excess of £500 a week.

They want to move to a bigger house and the council cannot move them immediately. They quoted this man as saying 'I'm really ashamed of what's happening. I think this country is going down the pan' (because the council wouldn't move him!!!).

My politics are left of centre but does anyone else think this is just obscene? I'm interested if anyone can offer even one word in his defence.

Six_times: This is in the U.K, not America. Not sure I get your point. Why if you don't live in a good area does that mean you have to bash out loads of kids?

Six_Times (again): You tell me not to judge people and yet you don't know me, but have decided i'm bitter. Not sure why. I don't have a family, that's true, but that's because i'm in my 20's and don't want them yet.

Veritas: Although I said my political views were left of centre, I don't like being compartmentalised as a 'leftie'. Also, in my original post I called the two women idiots, so I don't think I have let the women off the hook at all.

Andylefty: My problem is more because he doesn't work. He isn't disabled or incapable. He just doesn't work. He can have an army of kids if he wants. I support the welfare state for its service to those in need. This guy (and his harem) are abusing it.

I think we all have a responsibility to provide for ourselves, though I accept this is easier for some than for others. However, it does seem to me, on the facts as you set them out, that this man, and his two partners, are abusing the system and expecting the rest of society to support them.
Indeed, many ot the people contributing to this family's support through their taxes will be a lot worse of than this man - and that does not seem fair to me.
I feel particularly sorry for the children - what sort of normality are they growing up in, and what sort of lives lie ahead for them ?

Regretably, he is just doing what comes naturally. This question is a bit rich coming from a lefty who presumably supports this government (possibly excluding Iraq). A government, which has done more to destroy the traditional family than anything else in our history. Under this government the compensation culture, the victim culture, I am not responsible culture, has thrived and expanded. Also, social security payments have massively increased. But this is what left wing governments always aim for, that is to make their citizens as dependent on the state as possible. I have only scratched the surface of criticisms.

Don't let the women off the hook. They are actually having the children, and I am sure that they will be able to control their sexual urges better than he can.

This chap lives in Derby where I am. He made the local news and paper after being in the mail the first time - think it went to his head. He had the gall to say the country was going down the pan coz the city council wont find him a bigger house - like there are plenty of 15 bed houses on the Derby Council house list!!

He needs to get his nuts chopped, before he leeches any more cash from us hard working, tax paying types.

I cant say anything in his defence I am afraid. I was disgusted to read about him.
I have known people who were desperate for a council house and have had to wait months, sometimes years staying in homeless accommodation, so this man has nothing to complain about.
The country is "going down the pan" because of scroungers like him and his wife and lover.

I have no strong political opinions, but I think scroungers like him should be left fend for themselves!
No wonder he's not working.
I think the council are right to leave him there. It's just a pity that innocent children have to suffer.
What kind of future are they going to have?
No disrespect intended to anybody living in council accomodation (former council girl myself) but these kids have nothing to aspire to. They see a dysfuntional family, with a dad who gets paid a fortune from a trashy newspaper to sit at home and tell his "sad" story, cheat on their mum(s), scrounge off the council.......
The guy should be kicked in the nuts, those kids put into care, with families who can actually care and provide for them, and those women should have their stupid heads knocked together.

Never ever have more kids than you have bedrooms! Int his day and age of no smacking, how on earth do you discipline kids when you can't "send them to their room". And if you produce more chldren than the council can house - last time I looked, they weren't providing hotels or palaces - surely you must expect to live like battery hens?
what's really frightening is that man, with those horrendous attitudes, genes etc etc are letting those kids loose into the world!

Too many people view parenthood as a right rather than the privilege it is. People should not have children that they cannot afford to keep. But to penalise these people financially will make the children suffer, and they aren't the ones who have created this situation. There is no easy answer.

This man is a scrounger, pure and simple. He has no intention of providing for his family and seems to see an additional child as an additional source of income. I'd like to think there was a way round this, but I can't help thinking that if his benefits were capped, he wouldn't do without his beer and fags!

i kinda understand the non working part because he'd need a REALLY good job to feed a family of 18 (inc him n wife n mistress) after taxes but for him to say its down the pan because they wouldnt move him is jus screwed. Its hard enough for the council to find anyone a suitable house let alone a house big enough for 18

well, the guy isnt daft, he found a way to milk the system for all its worth... no doubt he's driving a coach and horses thru the loopholes, and appears to be quite happy...

technnically hes doing nothing wrong, morally hes a reprehensible scoundrel, but sadly this country's government and its press will castigae the man for his overactive fertile loins, his morally inept women, and whatever else they can find, whilst on the other hand give terrorists and NON taxpayers the keys to paradise, and they furnish for you as well.

charity begins at home. and fertile johnny pays his taxes...
