I found this fantastic quote today and I think it really sums up the state of chart music these days. Do you agree though?

The thing about pop music particularly is that it markets itself to children. Songs like the Mr Blobby song or Crazy Frog which have almost no musical merit and yet make thousands out of marketing and clever music videos.

Yeah. They market the $#it out of this absolute tripe to kids who don't know that there's better music out there. The commercial radio stations play top 40 all day long even if they repeat songs a couple of times, and it's everywhere on TV. The pop stars are in all the magazines and on entertainment shows - kids are bombarded with crappy pop and told it's not cool to listen to anything else so they don't seek out better music. It's not just kids though, a lot of adults get sucked into the pop genre too. Pop used to be good - look at the Beatles - why can't people make real music anymore??? Anyway, went off on a tangent there but, yes, I agree.

MMMmmmmm actually it is interesting but I don't know what to say.......I think some bands that are manufactured are mostly about making money and I do think that the singers and recored companies make too much money for what they actually do. But I think are some artists who are generally talented etc but I still think that they make too much money and Cd's are too expensive especially for child to buy and they really rip people off. So Yes! on the whole I agree with the statement! It's such a shame though that people-in particular children buy music that is in fashion-i.e in the charts because thats mainly the only music they hear......

Pop music has always been about style over substance and image over music, remember it took three albums for the monkees to play on one of their albums, but they were a huge pop act. Pop has also always been aimed at teenagers, provided a form of rebellion, the generation gap etc. So I think this has always been the case, its just that now pop music is even more disposable (Michelle Marsh single anybody) and as kids have money at an earlier age they are bound to buy it. I read a few years ago that the average age of a single buyer in the uk was 12, so its music for kids, but it always has been.

Not really. Most are about love, romance, breakups, having a good time(legally).
search Jesse McCartney, Hilary Duff, Ryan Cabrera, Lindsay Lohan, Mcfly,Westlife, Clay Aikan, Nich Lachey.

But some are, pop music is getting too overboard and over the edge today especially in britain.

i'd say I consider numbers 4 and 5 one million) i for my section do now not be conscious of adequate approximately this subject be counted to agree or disagree. 2) If via "the music industry," you recommend significant record labels, specific. The intend to make money, now not sell artists. 3) merely because of the fact the organisation creates them would not recommend that folk ought to hearken to them. 4 and 5 are surely related. Even i'm to blame of variety 5. i think of that rap sucks, yet it particularly is using the fact what I pay attention is 50 Cent and Souljah Boy. If it particularly is all it particularly is available so far as rap is going, then yeah, it sucks. i'm specific there is extra effective stuff available, yet i'm merely now not digging for it. somewhat, there's an astounding quantity of stuff available, yet you purely ought to be conscious of the place to get it. the actual challenge is human beings do now not look previous the secure foodstuff ordinary of crap that comes from the main appropriate labels and radio stations.

i agree,
the other thing that grates on me is the rest of the pop music is all about sex, they all gotta look sexy rather than have any natural talent (its all manufactured b+llox) and they dress too sexy for kids eyes and all they sing about is sex.

its like watching 4 minute porn films!

so called R+B is just as bad, all the rappers are living in their own little delusional world convinced they are p.i.m.p.s therefore their music is always about bass, p+mps, t+ts and a+se.
its all they seem to know!
bring back the natural talents who were older than 16, where its didn't matter if you were sexy or a pig ugly size 20, big deal, they could sing, their lyrics all told different stories, and the music was great!
not like the total rubbish that is played today.

Kind of, but then they do have a choice of whether to buy it or not. Generally for smaller kids, its the parents and grandparents who tend to buy the music for them , so more fool them. Preteens and adolescents tend to buy music similar to what their friends buy and their emerging tastes in music, fashion and latest 'most fancied' popstar', but generally, yes music these days is aimed at kids using constant media coverage (on shows such as x factor) to draw them in whilst they are still too young to really be able to have opinions, tastes and preferences and understand the contrived nature of such shows.

Not really... it's a product/experience that's being sold... the various artists/studios/producers compete against each other to produce what the kids want... if you don't turn out a good product, you don't get paid.

Now taxes... that's stealing!!!

I think you like what you buy .And if your a child your parents dont have to buy it for you .Like mm SAID YOU CAN TURN OFF THE TV.You dont have to listen or watch it .Music is great and the artist you buy you are supporting..If you dont want your children ,or you didnt want to buy it you shouldnt.

So, not really! I mean, those kids, they WANT music; NEED music; and dive into their own pockets ( or their PARENTS pockets!!!) So I could hardly call that stealing!
Having said that; I can tell you, that I do know what you mean when you say that!
