EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Nov. 15, 2006) -- Troy Aikman said Sunday he is "fifty-fifty" about whether or not he will end his retirement and play next season.

The former Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterback called a report about a possible comeback "speculation," Then, minutes later, he added, "It's something I've been thinking about all season."

ESPN.com recently found out that Aikman told ESPN's Ron Jaworski that he would be interested in returning to the NFL next season but only if he could work with Joe Gibbs in Washington.

Aikman led Dallas to three Super Bowl titles in a 12 seasons before retiring in April 2001. He was a first ballot Hall of Fame selection this year.

"I have said all along it's not something I have closed the door on," Aikman said. "If the right situation presented itself with the right offensive system, one that I believed in -- and Joe's is one I believe in -- then I would certainly consider it."

Joe Gibbs would not comment on this story.

Why not, he would make an excellent 3rd string QB, just look at Testeverde.

considering Troy Aikman is from a small city approximately 60 miles from the place I stay, he's a "homeland boy." yet, he retired some years in the past, and that i think he's no longer interior the style of shape he replaced into in whilst he replaced into enjoying. he's doing an astounding interest for his homeland, for hospitalized infants, etc. i'd plenty quite no longer see him get injury, and he would, i'm afraid.

If he is considering the Redskins, why is your story coming out of "East Rutherford, NJ" - home of the New York Giants?

Seems like it was a slow news day yesterday in New Jersey.

I doubt it. He has already been out of football for too long and i'm not sure who would want him anyway. He is probable too rusty and his age would scare teams who want to get somewhere.
