I'm a veteran of many moves, so I think I can offer a few hints.

1) Do your own packing. Often the people who you are supposed to be able to trust aren't going to be nearly as careful of your belongings as you.
2) Label the boxes with the room and an inventory list so you won't have to dig through all the boxes for that one item you need in your new home.
3) Try to schedule your move at a time when you can concentrate on it. While it is possible to handle moving and work at the same time, it's niether easy nor desirable.
4) This is one thing I think is a good idea, but was never an option for me: Consider renting a storage unit for the goods you won't need between now and your move. That way there will be less to actually move.

Good luck!

Im a nomad, i seem to move every couple of years or so. Ive been housesitting other people's homes for the last 5 years and then moving back home. The most recent was 5wks ago when i finally finished my last housesitting assignment and moved into a rental property seeing im pregnant with my first baby.

If i had to go back and change anything? I would say just make sure you have yourself organised well in advance. It stops you from stressing out about the little things, and moving home can be extremely stressful for anyone. If you havent packed, right down a plan of how its going to be done, who is or can help you, how much it is going to cost you and do u need any time off from work or study.

It stops you from running around like a bat out of hell...but if i had done any of this in the first place i would have been organised by now! (Only half the stuff has been pulled out and organised - im the size of a GoodYear Zeffer due to my pregnancy and cant do anything except waddle around the place).

Hope everything goes well and good luck!

Definitely have a mover move the big stuff. No ones back is worth getting injured. Also, if anyone helps out you owe them a meal.
It's a great way to clean house!!
