Without question, the finest TV series ever to hit the airwaves.
My favorite characters are Spock and Bones. It's a tie. Spock was wonderful as he struggled to be Vulcan...purging all emotion. But he had to fight the human nature to feel things. Spock once said "the healthy release of emotion is frequently very unhealthy for those closest to it."
McCoy was great as he tried to stay true to his roots of being an old country doctor while traveling on a starship. He hated the idea of the transporter "having my atoms scattered". But still did it to fulfill his responsibility in caring for lives, even if those lives weren't human.

That show was one of a kind.
The finest kind.
Oh wait, no. That was how Hawkeye described himself on M*A*S*H.
At any rate, Star Trek TOS was the product of so much talent, so much vision it had no choice but to become the cultural icon that it is.
The writers, the actors, the people who created the props and sets...all of them were top flight. Maybe that wasn't the case when they were hired, but they were shaped and molded by the Star Trek execs. The result was a product that may never be equaled.
Shatner and Nimoy have often commented about the family feeling of the Star Trek TOS crew. That feeling really came through in there work, and IMHO played a huge role in the success of the series. Even though NBC unceremoniously whacked it after 3 seasons, it is still the best thing to come off the 1960s airwaves.
My favorite character was Spock. Stoic, intelligent, unemotional...yet very human (sorry Spock), Spock was appealed to a side of us that most of us never even thought about until he came into our homes every week.
I look forward to the new movie. J.J. Abrams has my respect with his work on Lost and Alias. This could be a phenomenal movie....or it could be a major screw up. We will see.
Fingers are crossed.
Live long and prosper.

Oh, I might surely solid Kevin Pollack as Kirk seeing that he does a lifeless-bang Shatner influence, but when he were not to be had I'd have Eddie Murphy do it seeing that he is this kind of Trekkie. I'd have the man who performs Snape do Spock, form of like how he did on Galaxy Quest. Dave Foley might do a well McCoy, he has the correct grin. Mike Myers for Scotty. Chekhov might be anyone like Sergei Bodrov if he were not lifeless or possibly one of the vital new up and coming Russian men from Night Watch. Maria Carey might be Uhura simply to make individuals drool, however possibly Chris Rock in drag might be funnier. PS whoever mentioned the Rock as Spock -- that might be genius, however provided that you had Clive Owen as Kirk.

The original Star Trek was a show that broke the mold of stupid shows like Lost in Space. Spock was the coolest.

Very cool show. The "special effects" were so bad, it was almost funny. I think it was a rule that Kirk had to rip his shirt in every episode. My favorites were Spock and Bones (Dr. McCoy)

I watched the re-runs when I was a kid black and white and then in color 10:00 am every Sunday on CBC for years.
I like them all Dr.Mcoy, Mr.Scott, Captain Kirk, Checkov, Sulu
and Uhura, and Spock.
