I'm breastfeeding my newborn (he's 1 month) ... I've had symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder since I was in high school, I'm 24 now. I'm gonna call my doc during business hours tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone knew if I can take medication for it while I'm breastfeeding.

You'll need the name of the medication so it can be looked up in the book "Medications & Mother's Milk" by Hale. Your doctor may not have this book, but it provides THE BEST info for nursing moms reguarding meds. You Lactation Consultant and LLL Leader will probably have it. Or you can contact me and I can check my copy. I'll also include a couple of good links below for meds info.

Ask your doctor and then the pharmicist too. Most medicine does carry over into breast milk so you need to be very careful. I had a burn cream prescibed to me and I told the dr I was breastfeeding, he said it was safe. When I got to the pharmacy they told me it was NOT safe, and turns out they were right ( I looked it up) so needless to say Dr dont know as much about drugs as you think. I would get 2 opinions if I were you

Were you allowed to take them when you were pregnant? If not then you most likely cant take them now while breast feeding.

You deserve it!

You'll need to contact La Leche League or a Lactation Consultant and they can provide you with a list of compatible meds.
