It still remains to be seen. Since the Elections for the House of Representatives and the Senate were just elected. The Democrat's currently are the Majority of both. Basically this type of set up keeps America from being ran by a dictator. As for George Bush it doesn't change things too much. If he wants to things passed the Senate & House must approve. Also if these 2 branches of Government try to pass a law the President can Veto it. IT can get a little complicated

Nothing new will change. That might seem bizarre, but congress was getting soft and this year broke or nearly broke the record of the least amount of times they convened. Last year was no different. Nothing major had in like three years. Even the immigration thing was a reaffirmation of a 20 year old law. Congress might convine more now, but with Bush's veto power nothing still might not get done. This might be good in that the U.S. is the poorest nation on earth. The government is ran on credit that's in the trillions. With social security and medicaid debt totalling $40 trillion in about 20 years, added to maybe another $20 trillion in other payments in the next 20 years, the U.S. might be looking at $60 trillion in debt in 20 years. At that rate, the U.S. might not be able to pay the interest at that time. Obviously the only ways to bring that number down is to spend less and tax more. If Congress isn't doing anything, they can't spend the money.

Also, with the change, a number of very important committees that help develop the laws, decide how the money is spent, and open investigations into questionable situations will now be chaired by senior democrats. This will help shift the activities of the congress.
