Dang if I know. Why not give it a try? You can buy a little coil of solder at Radio Shack for a buck or two. Try soldering something, at first, that wouldn't matter if it got ruined. I guess you know, they say the best practice is not to hold your soldering iron against the solder itself, but rather to use your iron to heat up the object(s) to be soldered, and then hold your solder down against the object(s) and let their heat (not the iron) melt your solder. See the link below, or do an internet search for "soldering tips," " soldering techniques," or "solder," etc. Your lighter might work because it doesn't take a lot of heat to melt solder.

No. A lighter spreads too cold a flame over too large an area. All you'll do is wreck whatever you're trying to solder.
