I can not operate the fob from inside the house about 30 feet away. I replaced the batteries and that did not help.

take it back to your local chevy dealer and let them worry about it.

the range is supposed to be 200 feet. If you are inside(which it say's you are) that can cause it not to work. Are you trying it in an area where there are no windows?? Is the car in a Garage?? Are you following the proper procedure? (press lock button then hold down start button for 2-4 seconds.) If all of these are ok than you may need to go to your service center and have it checked out

A lot of these remote have a setting when installed that affects the range. Take it back to the shop and have them turn up the range on the transmitter in the car.
I just installed one and set it for 70 feet( max range) for this starter.

Make sure it is in line of sight of the car, any obstructions between remote and car cause to work poorly. Just like a garage door opener, garage door opener is hard to use from inside house too. make sure antenna on car isn;t loose that causes problems to.

I have a lincoln and it's the same way, I would get pay the money and get a new one, if not then suck it up, you can't fix it you would have to replace the chip inside and that would end up costing you more money.

the problem is not the batteries... the fob was designed for cheap value...go to your local alarm store and get a new one... stock systems are always bad.
