Spellcasters are the most versatile monster type in Yu-Gi-Oh after Warriors. It all depends on what you want to do with your deck.
General Spellcaster tips:
-Spellcaster decks tend to get thin fast. Pot of Avarice is a good way to repopulate your deck.
-Good Quickplay Spell cards are key to doing anything with Spell counters. Emergency Provisions, Pigeonholing Books of Spell, and Mystic Wok are good examples.
-Avoid just putting a bunch of Spellcasters together in a deck. A deck is like a book and it need a definite beginning, middle, and end.
-Keep it simple. I know its tempting to do something like a Dark Magician deck but trying to summon Dark Paladin and Dark Magician Knight in the same deck is a doomed enterprise.
Spellcaster themes:
-General Spellcaster: A good sampling of Spellcasters. Basically the Spellcaster's Judgement structure deck.
-Spell Counters: This deck was popular when Butterfly Dagger-Elma was still legal but has since faded into obscurity.
-Gravekeeper's: A very powerful deck. With Necrovalley to pump them up and great effects to keep them alive I'd say Gravekeeper's is the most competitive of all the Spellcaster decks.
-Dark Magician: The original Spellcaster deck. This deck runs cards related to the TV show. Like Spellbinding Circle, Magical Hats, and Relinquished.
-Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys: Its a simple but devastating deck. You bring out Hand of Nephthys with Apprentice Magican and sac it + 1 more monster for the Phoenix. Then your opponent has the difficult task of getting rid of it without triggering its ability.

Use the Spellcaster Theme Deck and add/replace cards that are useful for Spellcaster's and more powerful Spellcaster. ** Get Sorcerer of Dark Magic if you can.

Start off with the Spellcaster Theme Deck and then build off of it with support cards are cards that go with that theme like other spellcasters.
