if he came back and wanted to give you a label with codes on which could have been a receipt was i wrong to refuse him?

you were right - if he wrote a receit it really counted for nothing, no copies for him and nothing really scanned in 'officially' to the company. You would be the one at fault if it went missing. Hope you called the company and asked why he had no receits and it put you at liability - and wasted YOUR time waiting in for him/her

I work for a delivery company and it is normal practice to hand over some sort of paperwork when picking up consignments.
If he doesnt give you anything dont hand over the item, unless you got the company phone and check with them what there procedures are, look up number in the phone book

any parcel returned the parcel colector must give you a receipt as proof of pick up so it gets back to the supplier and they can credit/replace the item

yes you should have took it and also got him to write out a receipt and got him to sign it, otherwise you have no proof at all that he took the package

yes, they have to give you a returns slip to prove that it has been collected -i made the mistake of letting a courier take a stereo that i had ordered from a catalogue wen i was younger which they kept
luckily as i managed to give a description of the woman to the company they knew she was and it was sorted
