I had to write an essay on creation vs. evolution for science class, and I was assigned to write my essay about mutation, how it connects to evolution, to prove how it is true, and to prove how this proves that evolution is true. He assigned the topics, so even though I am a creationist I had to pretend I thought we evolved. (The essay is in the additional details).

Mutation is a change in DNA. This could happen when DNA fails to copy accurately, or it could be caused by radiation, or specific chemicals. There are simple DNA changes, in which a cat could end up with its ears curling backwards. But it could also be a major change, like the way that humans evolved. If a green beetle’s offspring is a brown beetle, this would be mutation, and this makes more brown beetles. When the earliest living things on this planet evolved into humans, this is because of mutation, and how the bugs’ offspring were not like the parents. Creationists could make the argument, that if humans evolved from apes, how come there are still apes in the world. But as I said earlier, the ape’s offspring could have been slightly different, and eventually it led to humans.

This is only a rough draft. It still needs a conclusion. But please tell me what you think about it. Serious answers only please! Thank You!

Basically, I am not trying to ask if you agree with me. I am asking you if the essay was good, and if you have any other things that prove evolution, for me to add to my essay. I am NOT asking how to approach this because I am a creationist.

The timeless controversy!! It is very good debating practice to have to argue for something you disagree with.

Mutation is considered one of the four forces of evolution. In the 1960s, mutation became a major focus of evolutionary research. Scientists have shown that mutations increase genetic diversity by giving rise to harmless differences in a gene that can be maintained in a population over long periods. These changes are reflected in the number of alleles (gene forms) within the population.

These links should help you with your argument. Best of luck with it.

Creationists really don't understand Evolution. For example, as you mention, Creationists want to know why, if humans evolved from apes, why are there still apes? They seem to think that a mutation in one ape's offspring occurs in every single ape's offspring. Of course there are still apes - most apes had no mutations.

Creationists seem also not to know how long a million years is - they talk as if science is saying things evolve in the blinking of an eye. In fact, evolution takes place over a very long period of time, with mutations and simple variations [a bit taller, a bit smarter, a bit whatever] accumulating by natural selection.

Natural selection is the "choosing" by Nature of traits that give an individual member of a species an advantage in the environment it finds itself in. That is, those members of a species that have a trait that gives them a leg up will survive better and therefore will produce more offspring with that trait, and they will survive better, and so a species will by gradual means come to be composed of those who have that trait.

So the production of a new species is not the simple matter that Creationists think science is saying it is - science is saying quite the opposite: evolution takes time and is not simple, but rather a complicated interplay between natural variation, mutation, and the tendency of Nature to select for advantageous traits....

Humans needed a great deal more than a single mutation to become human...there was the upright walking, the shortening of the arms and lengthening of the legs, the increase in brain volume, which led to tools, and the development of language. And before there was us, Homo Sapiens, there were other humans, like Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Homo Neanderthalensis.

One type of evolution is that from dinosaurs to birds. The evidence from fossils and from genetics is that some dinosaurs developed bird-like features that helped them survive and reproduce, and these features became more and more bird-like under natural selection.

Darwin showed, as far as mutation goes, that the finches in the Galapagos Islands had by mutation evolved into separate species, and indeed, it can be seen that birds that had been introduced to such islands eventually by accumulated variation and mutation developed different types of beaks, some of the original members finally producing birds that had thick beaks for crushing seeds, others of the original members in the end producing birds that had long, narrow beaks for digging up insects, etc.

Basically, a single mutation might confer an advantage to the offspring of a couple of original parents, and these offspring would then have offspring with this advantageous mutation. Then the other original types would not disappear, but the ones having the new trait would have a leg up and fit into the environment and go their ways separately and flourish as well.

Too ancient of a default question. The feature here is how
old are planets, when did man in what stages of history enter?
Lets establish a time chart, 5 billion bc, to 10 million ad. At
the beginning does not matter because there is no evidence.
Something like this, a super force say Pokemon was living
in another modem, say they had all green hair, and toes, so
they were friends with the kingdoms of frogs, lizards, so on.
This is a complete environment, why I knew you would ask
that, because they have enough members to live indefinitely.
SOOOO. We do not live in the green toe planet systems.
Ok to establish how it started, number one there were other
systems around before us. That is where evolution may
make the difference because here it is was the very very
first planet alive or all chemistries, like grubs and worms.
That is not really about evolution. Though in say 40 million
years travelling through space, it could have been very
exciting and they made butterflies and it was evolution.
What? That's it. The beginning means like us, and only us.
So we say there was a super force giant human like say
the original GOD Almighty that could do anything, say like
read books about the green toes, the blue cheese goats
whatever, and make up HIS own design. Not so complicated.
Now the point is history, if he used our beam down science
and ALLLLLLLLL of the info to prevent wars, catastrophes,
disasters, and so on,HE would make really, really excellent
planets and people. Though how many types of people does
HE need? So now its complicated, though very advanced.
OK. That's it and on your left is the music nebula? Who do
you think invented the chanting yoyos?

If you really wanna do an outstanding job, read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. It is in a silver hardcover book.

Its a new release, I just got through it and it was the best book I could have imagined on evolution vs creationism.

I should also point out that mutations occur by chancce. You should look at natural selection through genes. Also pay attention to the idea of the "meme plex"

Do a search for richard dawkins in you tube, look for the root of all evil.

Also look for charles darwin, the founder of current evolution

Just even responding to such a ridiculous presumption gives it credence. You say you are "a creationist." Ohhhhkay -- I guess you're not too smart then, so I don't really see how I can help you answer this question, especially since you're only "pretending" to think "we" evolved. Talk about having the courage of your convictions. My question to you is, how can you have walked this Earth long enough to get into what I presume must be at least high school, and be so ignorant of facts and common sense. You ever visit the Grand Canyon? You think that and the rest of the world was made in 6,000 years? Geez. It's science class, not mythology class. Get a clue.

I can't tell if you are asking advice about the essay structure, or how to approach this topic if you disagree with the conclusion.

I can offer you a summary of how I would explain the mutation/evolution argument:
(1) First define the theory of evolution (and also mutation)
including the notion that animals and plants have a natural instinct toward survival or life.
(2) To demonstrate "survival of the fittest" and "natural selection," studies on mutations and genes show that dominant genes (that tend to pass on) correlate with traits that increase quality or quantity of life, or survival.
(3) So documented mutations and related studies are used as scientific evidence to prove the theory of evolution.

I have also added lengthy comments below if you are experiencing a personal dilemma with this assignment. Either way, I hope this helps you. Please don't let the divisive comments of either strict creationists or evolutionists dissuade you from seeking the real truth which encompasses both. I'm sure the creationists and evolutionists in heaven are getting along just fine, scoffing at the idiots left on earth who don't get it.

Yours truly,
Emily

* If you have problems stating this as fact, are you allowed to state objectively that "Evolutionists use these results to prove that..." or "Through these studies, science provides documented proof of the theories of evolution." This clarifies you are writing objectively about how the data and studies relate to proof of evolution, without necessarily involving your own views.

* Are you allowed to present the ideas in evolution as part of the natural design of creation? The previous Pope John Paul stated there was room for both evolution and creation, and I believe that makes the most sense. Humans are meant to evolve spiritually, and even the history of the Christian faith speaks to this process.
First, Moses laid down the letter of the law, then Christ came to bring about fulfillment by the spirit of the law, and now, generations later, people are still learning to understand and to fulfill this process, so that our social institutions and world are still "evolving" to come closer to the ideals set forth in the beginning. Just because human beings experience, perceive, and document these developments "linearly" does not mean they weren't already planned holistically, from beginning to end, by God's divine plan. The same with the physical creation.

If your teacher will count off points if you attempt to reconcile at all with your own beliefs, then just stick to the assignment if the point of the exercise is only to defend the viewpoint of strict evolutionists, and not to make side comments.

You can reserve your own views for a separate essay, or turn in two -- one for the official grade and one as your own personal letter to your teacher or class. [Frankly, I would rather students, parents, teachers and school staff meet and agree in advance how to handle issues of sex education, creation and evolution, religion and prayer in schools, before these topics are brought up in class. There should be a regular forum or process to work these issues out as part of the education process.]

Proving that forms of evolution happen in terms of mutation does not contradict any of the natural laws that God designed as part of the universe and how we learn by interacting in it.

There are verious websights that you can go to that speak of creationism from a scientific point of view. Also you can look for books by Lee Strobel (not sure the spelling). He has a several books dealing with faith, creation, God. Some of his books are titled- A Case For Christ, A Case For Faith, etc. Lee was formally an atheist, but later converted to christianity. In his books he interviews several scholars in various fields. I believe these would help you out.

I can't think of an arguement for Evolution because I also believe we were created. I don't think it's right that your teacher is making you try to prove evolution. Even scientists cannot prove evolution. Evolution can only legally be taught to students as a theory otherwise it is forcing a belief on you. Unless your in college, then I don't know what to tell you.

The only problem I see is that you say we evolved form apes. We didn't. We share a common ancestor to apes.

INTERESTING, I SEE MUTATION AS THE RESULT OF WHAT MAN HAS DONE, AS YOU NOTED, CHEMICALS AND RADIATION. COUPLA YEARS AGO IN MINNESOTA THEY WERE FINDING FROGS, IN ONE AREA, ALL MUTATED, SIX LEGS, 5, 8 ETC TWO HEADS. ALSO YOUR RIGHT ABOUT CREATIONISM. STAY HOOKED TO THE TREE OF LIFE, WHERE THE LIVING WATERS FLOW.
GOD BLESS
