"Cheap" depends on which currency you're using. By US$ or GBpound standards, yeah, super cheap. But if you're shopping with Malaysian money, Chinese money, etc., then no. Thailand is good for shopping in that there's tons of variety (probably the same, if not more of a selection - due to it simply being a bigger place) and it's indisputably cheaper than Singapore.

Plus, with Bangkok's brand spanking new airport, getting there is easier than ever.

Kuala Lumpur(sp?) is a closer, also cheap shopping alternative.

Also, electronics only work out to be cheaper because foreigners purchasing goods in Singapore can get a refund of the GST (general sales tax) upon departure. If it weren't for that, most things would work out to be priced similarly to other places in the region. That is probably due to high fees that the electronics companies have to pay in import taxes being tacked onto prices

Only for electronics. Electronics are really cheap here, Funan the IT mall, just a few walks away from Cityhall MRT station, this mall is packed with lots of cheap computer accesories, laptops, desktops. Shops beyond 4th floors offers computer parts and modification parts. You can bargain at any computer stores except for those computers megamart like courts, harvey norman and some other megastores.

For fashion wise, try Bugis Street, for loads of cheap apparel.
But personally I think Kuala Lumpur has a wider varieties of clothes and the price is damn low! So much lower than Singapore's, and their clothes are oh-so nice!!! But, electronics in KL aren't really cheap.

So, if you wanna shop for mostly clothes, KL's the place, for electronics , it'll be Singapore. But KL is more exciting!

nope not EVERYTHING is cheap, things imported from western countries are more expensive, but if you are looking for electronics it is cheaper here compared to other countries. For clothes or shoes it maybe just be a little bit cheaper, compare prices with few shops. Happy Shopping, Cheers!!

It is a little less expensive than the US, but if you want really good deals, go to Kuala Lumpur or Indonesia. Singapore is very "Americanized" an is one of the "higher end" Asian countries, if you know what I mean.

I have been over there for a little bit, and I noticed TONS of tourists buying stuff. There is good amount that is cheaper than over in America, but a good amount of it isn't a significant change of price. I think it more depends on what you're buying too.
