Elephants are up there on the list of most intelligent animals, which is why people often say they have good memories.
(In my personal beleif, memory is a major factory in intelligence)

yes they do!!!!

So much so that scientists are researching on whether this ability to remember things is genetic.

so remembering where that lake was perhaps could be passed down from the elephants mother.

I dont buy it but it does show how extensive elephants memories are
