It's a side effect of having individuality. The same differences that we find intriguing in one person can be annoying in another. :) The best way to deal with this situation is to deal with the person in a professional manner when required, and attempt to minimize contact with them when you can.

Misery loves company! Most people who push your buttons are in way or another unhappy and the only sense of accomplishment is when they can get a reaction out of another person. Treat them in a professioanl way (that which is respectful)- that doesn't mean you have to LIKE them though! :-)

It has been my experience that there is always one person whose life is absolute crap and make it their life's goal to make your life as miserable as possible. The only good news is that they tend to treat everyone this way.
