I had a leak right where the shaft goes into the transfer case. i put a seal around it and it's fixed.. but now i had a leak coming from the transfer case going down my shaft onto my u-joint and dripping from there. i have talked to mechanics and they say my yoke is screwed.. he also said i can use JB weld or something to seal it instead of buying a $293.00 yoke.. where would i have to seal it with JB weld in order for it to stop leaking?

The dealer i went to said there's no plug or seal in the inside of the shaft anywhere to stop the leaking.. my truck is an 88' GMC half ton and he said the plug was stopped being used around the mid 80's

The surface of the yoke where the seal rides is worn out. The seal will wear a groove in the yoke, and fluid will leak past it. You'll either need a repair sleeve for the yoke, or another yoke. JB weld won't hold up for long.

It may be leaking from the inside of the yoke, some GM's used a rubber seal on the splines of the shaft to prevent fluid from leaking through the yoke. If it is coming through the yoke, clean it out and put some silicon in the yoke and try it again. Good luck.

I agree this is nothing more than an $8.00 seal. You can replace it yourself. Good luck
