If you go to the website of the law society - the professional body for solicitors - www.lawsociety.org.uk - you can search all solicitors by area and specialism - ("find a lawyer") they won't say what they charge, but you will know that they are reputable this way. You will get telephone nos of firms which specialise in property, for example, so you can call them to check their rates. It's worth not quibbling too much over the price - an extra £50 on a good solicitor could save you thousands over a bad mistake. Good luck!

You don't have to choose your solicitor from your area. even if they are far they can still do the job. I recently use hammonds direct (Yorkshire) to purchase our house and i live in London.they are pretty good. £705 inc. everything. no completion no fee.
