The rules one should live by in order to have [one of] the best possible lives are laid out by the Ten Commandments. Follow these rules and you'll have a good life, that's what I say. But no life can be perfect. If life is perfect, then life has lost its meaning.

To keep the commandments and reach out with love and service to those you are in contact with and meet along life's way - is the only way. The world would be a far better place if mankind would do this:
Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can
In all the ways you can
In all the places you can
At all the times you can
To all the people you can
As long as every you can.

Hmmmmm....
By realizing that there is no such thing as perfect in this life....and by accepting that on an inner level.
Also, by praying for Gods will and trusting the fact that everything that happens somehow serves His purposes. When you can have that kind of faith....you will know inner peace.
Another thing that gives me peace....is not worrying too much about materialistic things. Yes, I like nice things as much as anyone else. But, I don't grieve for them. I am thankful to have the necessities covered. Very thankful.
Life is simple. Why do we all tend to overcomplicate it?
Actually, that was one of the things Dad told me during his last days.....and he was an incredibly intelligent man. "Life is simple."

There is no such thing as a perfect life because perfection by definition is an unattainable human attribute.
Thus, what I think you are referring to is what would make one feel whole (i.e. satisfied) with ones life. And in that case, it all depends on the individual. For instance, for a person like myself, happiness is directly correlated to my career and marriage. If I like what I am doing and how I am doing it, I feel pretty satisfied.

Careful, most people i know who try to have a perfect life usually make everyone else's life a misery by constantly complaning about everything not being perfect.

It is not possible to have a perfect life. But keep breathing and you will make it through to the end.

I dont think living a perfect life comes from doing good works, or getting good things, or simply making it by. I'm a christian and believe that God created us for Him to live through. If God is living through us, we come to our full potential. BUT, if we try to please God doing "good deeds" our whole life--and it's only US doing it--that's worthless. God is the one who needs to be living THROUGH us. This way we are at peace, RESTING in Him, while he does an amazing work through us. Our life is then perfect in Him and I believe that's how someone's fulfilled.

There is no answer to this. If you do what makes you feel happy in life, and not harm or hurt anyone along the way, you will be fine. As long as you do what makes you happy, life will always be good.

Have you ever seen the film "The meaning of Life" (Monty Phyton)?
Try to watch it, and certainly, you will find a pretty good approach to what should be to have -at least- a close-to-perfection life. Hope you enjoy it!! ;)
