It's all about wanting the ball! Don't think of it as a tackle or a slide tackle... Just think of it as something that belongs to you that you need back. You don't have to make it pretty! Just focus on the ball and take it! Don't be afraid of being dribbled and never give up on the ball!
My technique is... On each play I set a priority! If you would like him to go to your right make it clear that he's going to have a hard time coming in through the left! So the player goes right! Now he's where you want him to be... so you make your move. Sometimes you slide, but mostly you don't... when you do that's just how it came out!
I use this technique successfully against other Brazilians!

Tackling the ball involves a lot of techniques. You must be willing to make contact when necessary. Use shoulders, never elboys or hands to move a player off the ball.

Always try to move your body between the player and the ball, however you can. Reaching in with the foot is harder and you run the risk of a tripping call. Learn to roll around the player by making contact and spinning your body.

Your coach can teach you many of these techniques. Pay attention in practice, learn to take good angles on the player with the ball; don't be afraid to make contact.

Tackling from behind is very tricky and you must be very accurate or you will often end up with a trip and a yellow card, if not an injury.

Always seek to control the ball before passing. Don't just kick it away unless you need to get the ball out of bounds as a defender to give your tem time to get into positon to help you in a tight situation.

Until you have developed the skills above, I recommend that you avoid the slide tackle; it can be dangerous and can result in penalties. I don't recommend the slide tackle in the younger age groups at all. I'm sure some people don't agree, but that is my feeling.

Whatever you do, always make sure to make contact with the ball. If you don't, you will get a panalty or a card as well. Practice, practice, practice.

A good game to practice is to mark off a square about 20 yds by 20 yds. Have everyone get into the square with a ball. The object being to keep your ball in the square while kicking everyone else's ball out of the square. When your ball is out, you cannot kick anyone else's ball and must leave the square. The last one in the square wins. Repeat this drill several times. Its really fun and really sharpens your skills.

I think tackling involves jumping onto another person without hurting him or making it look like it hurt. I don't know very much about all this but I think that you aren't supposed to tackle from behind, right?

If you are talking about rugby or American football, you are supposed to grab at the opposing player's feet--don't know how this is done... you might get kicked in the face...

Well, for practising, maybe you could ask a friend who doesn't mind a couple of bruises.

First, move to Chicago. Second, watch the entire season of the 1985 Chicago Bears including the Suoer Bowl. Tackling lesson complete.

Maybe u can do some stretching to make yourself more flexible instead of stiff. Den try to sit down and watch matches. Observe how players dribble pass and maybe u can try and sit down there and anticipate where they are going. After much watching, maybe u can go try to play some matches. Maybe this will improve ur tackling. This is how i train. =D Hope it helps u.
