I have a question about exponents:

If you have 5x^4, then do you do x^4, and that times 5, or do you do 5 times x, and that answer to the fourth?

If it reads 5x^4, it means 5 * x^4. If it read (5x)^4, then it would mean 5x * 5x * 5x * 5x.

According to the rules of operator precedence, exponentiation precedes multiplication, so it's 5 * (x^4). The acronym "PEMDAS" is often used in teaching operator precedence. It stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, and Addition and Subtraction (see ref.), a list of some common math operators and delimiters in order of highest to lowest precedence. Note also that "x^4*5" also means 5 * (x^4), not x^20, another example of exponentiation trumping multiplication.

The Order of Operations is PEMDAS (parentheses exponents multiplication division addition subtraction).
Since "exponents" come before "multiplication," you do x^4 and then you multiply that by 5.
Hope this is at least a little helpful!

You would have to do x^4 then multiply that answer times 5.

5x^4 means that i do x^4, and that times 5
If you want to do 5 times x, and that to the fourth, use a bracket in which you include 5 times x; it will be:

(5x)^4

It would be x^4 multiplied by 5.
just remember BEDMAS.... order of operations

basically, this is what it means
5(x^4)

so calculate the x^4 first. Then multiply it with 5 to get your answer.

no
first find x^4 i.e, multiply x four times and then multiply with 5
