As you may be aware a savings company called farepak have gone bust and all those families who have saved with them all year have lost all their money. About a million kids arnt going to have a happy xmas. If everyone sent in one present those kids would atleast have something to open on xmas day.

I think whats happened is really awful and I feel very sorry for these families, however I also think its really bad that there are families putting their children on tv to cry in front of millions is awful to. I woould protect my children from this and certainly wouldnt tell them they are going to have an awful christmas, I would donate to as I know friends who have lost money, but I think its awful that some families are involving their children to pull at heartstrings, some of these children may not know that santa doesnt exist !!!

Must agree with Fred, its the parents who have ruined their kids christmas by telling the kids, i'm sick of hearing about it, hundreds of companies go bust every year and people loose their money, jobs, houses etc, if it wasn't for christmas no one would care. Why do people have to save thousands of pounds to pay for christmas and if they do want to save why don't they put it in a building society like normal people.

Has anyone thought of how much these people spend on christmas? Some maintain they have lost hundreds or thousands and I can't afford that sort of money - I spend accordingly and we enjoy our christmas. Its not all about presents, overeating and getting drunk.
To help them, why not try to teach them the real meaning of christmas which is cheap but priceless.

That's really sweet. We are actually one of those families, along with many of our friends. Fortunately, we didn't invest too much money in the first place, because we simply couldn't afford to, but our friends have lost hundreds of pounds. It's a crap thing to happen at a crap time of year to those who can ill afford it.

think the government is thinking along the same lines - talking about setting up charities at the banks etc. maybe you could contribute to one of these. if they are to make a difference they will have to do it soon though.
