I believe 1 year. The law has changed! You have to be disabled 6 months before you are eligible.

Usually from a month maximum before you sent in the application form unless you have a good reason as to why you applied late

On my Aunt, they went back from the day that she had applied for it. That was about 4 years ago, so I don't know if the law has changed since then.
