mechanical pencil. You don't have to sharpen them, and they erase better than regular pencils for some reason.

Hmmm...I would say have a few pencils, a pen, and maybe a highlighter on you to take good notes. If you are a girl, a purse is a good place to stash those things. If you are a boy, try those large pockets of yours. I use a pencil most of the day but for notetaking you might want to change writing to organize data.

I woudl have to say that it depends on the subject. Obviously if you are doing math, languages (spanish, latin etc), or subjects where your answers could change often use a pencil. If you are doind science, writing class or englsih use a pen.

Depends on what you need it for.
For math, physics and chemistry: pencil.
For language arts and social studies: pen.
