My former apaprtment community said that they sent my security deposit back to me over three weeks ago. The problem is that I never recieved it. They told me that I would either have to wait and see if it was returned to them, or pay $40 for them to stop payment and issue a new check.
They did not send this check via certified mail or with a delivery confirmation, so there is no way for me to know if they actually sent it.
What is my recourse????

i've done the same thing before. i did stop the payment on a check. but i think you need name, check number, dollar amount, and check date.

contacting your bank would be the best thing cuz it depends on the bank.

Your recourse depends on what city/state/country you live in. Without that information nobody can tell you what recourse you have.

Well, some people are happy to answer your question anyways because, for some reason, they think a wrong answer is better than no answer.

For example, Luna and Peter apparently can't even read well enough to figure out that it isn't a check drawn on your account.

Anytime you have a signed document out there that has not been claimed or cashed, it is a potential loss. If the cost of the fee exceeds the value of the check, let it go; otherwise pay the stop payment fee and have peace of mind.

that is BS. There is no reason you should have to pay THEM for a stop payment. It is their responsibility as it is any other business or person who has to stop pay their own check.

I'm not sure what your recourse is except to argue it and stand your ground.

I hope someone has some better advice.
