I've used it personally as both slang for using the rest room for #1, but also when I need to be going to meet with College faculty in regards to the fate of my degree, because like the Wizard, in OZ, they too were mere mortals, but yet held the power of my future in their hands as they acted like deities.

Off To See The Wizard

It's a quote from The Wizard of Oz. Scarecrow said it because he hoped that the wizard could give him a brain, so it is often said in reference to getting help with something. So when you ask a question on YA, maybe is a sense you could say, "I'm off to see the wizard!!"

I know it is taken from the song in "The Wizard of Oz". I'm off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of oz,.....

Honestly I think it is used simply because it is so well known, almost a classic iconic use in our language. My friend says it when he uses the john. I think I might have used it once at work.

It's a reference to the lyrics of a song in "The Wizard of Oz", a film presumably seen by every American man, woman and child.

What is the purpose of the paper? What kind of paper are you writing? You must always consider the audience when writing the paper. Perhaps this is an academic audience.

Although I've never heard this one used, it seems pretty clear that the "I'm going to the bathroom" responses are correct.
'Wiz' or 'whiz' is slang for urnination. "I've got to take a whiz" meaning "I've got to piss".
'Wizard' is just a *clever* pun.
