We are in Athens in those weeks... appreciate suggestions from Athenians for 24/12 & 31/12 evenings?

It depends on what you like...
You can go out (to a bar, to a pub, to a good restaurant, to a fast food, to a bouzoukia music hall, to a theatre, to a music hall) or you can stay home with friends.
You can try and meet Greek people of your age and your mentality and follow them wherever they go. Or you can just stop some Greek in the middle of the street and say "Hi, I'm foreigner in Athens and want to spend Christmas Eve in a real home. Could I come over your place?"; the reply would be most probably "Of course! You are welcome!"

If you want a good family environment with grandma and everything, you can come over my place! You are welcome!

I really cannot tell you certain places to go to. Find places to eat that are not in touristic areas. Chose places where Greeks use to go.
On new years eve DO NOT go to the big party in Sydagma square. Lot's of people, many wallet lifters. Choose a party in a club or something in Psiri or Gazi area so you have tons of clubs and bars to chose from
