Many things can happen when you start birth control. Birth control can make your periods lighter and you can have spotting (the brown discharge your're having is blood called spotting) until your body adjusts to "thinking it's pregnant".

Sometimes when your body is adjusting to the hormones in birth control you may have bleeding like that. However i am not a doctor so there a few things you can do. You can call a planned parenthood and talk to a nurse or doctor. You can call a hospital and talk to a nurse(look in the phone book they have listings for hot-lines at the hospital and you could speak to a real person) . Or you could do nothing and something could be wrong. Be responsible you are 16 if you feel like you are old enough to have adult relations you should inform your self on where to get with thees women things. I wasn't trying to be mean or nasty just want you to understand having sex comes with many responsibility's. Be smart and call a professional.

Maybe, but not necessarily. Your periods will be strange for the first few months of being on the pill since your hormones and that part of your body are being affected. However, you may want to talk to a doctor just in case. Having a light period is normal on certain types of BC, but not on all. Also, this could be spotting, which is (not to worry you) indicative of pregnancy. I doubt you're pregnant, but better safe to talk to a doctor than be wondering.
Doctors recommend that you be on the pill for a full month before starting to have sex, and you should not have sex for the first week of a new pack because your body is not fully resistant yet. If you do have sex during the first week of a pack, then use a condom--although you should always use one anyway, since BC is not 100% effective.

loestrin24fe is one of those pills that shorten your period That can be by legthn or amount of flow or both. Birth controll pills often flucuate your period as your body gets used to them and that can take several months to a year. I wouldn't worry too much this time wait until next month and see if it is the same. When I first took B/C I skipped my period for a whole month a couple different times.
If you are too worried Tell your mom maybe she can call the doctor and ask. You can always check with planned parenthood too. they should have more info.

CALM DOWN
Honey your fine!
These can be symptom from being on the pill, it is normal for your periods to change when on birth control. Your body is adjusting to hormonal changes. Don't freak out. For some women their periods even if not on b/c behave strangly every once in a while. Calm down and monitor your period for next month, if it does'nt come there is still no need to freak, birth control affects different women in different ways. If your menstral does come, journal how you are flowing. Aftter a while your body should adjust normally. But if you persist on being freaked out, look up the side effects of the birth contol pill you are on.
and remember always use protection as a precaution not only to avoid pregnancy but to avoid the possible 33 STD's out there!
Luv ya chic

Taking the pill can and usually will cause your periods to be lighter. But as for the brownish discharge I would check with your doctor. A brownish discharge could be old blood or it could be some kind of infection.

You probably should go to the doctor who prescribed the pills to you, but only to confirm what I am about to tell you.
If this is your first period after taking a FULL CYCLE of pills, the situation you are describing is fairly normal. Your flow should be noticably lighter than before. If you are experiencing cramps moreso than before you got on the hormones, definetly call the doc, but I'm reasonably sure that you don't have anything to worry about. Pills change your body in several small ways, it is to be expected.

a majority of people have weird things happen when they first start taking the pill, you should just tell your doctor, you could still get pregnant during the first month of taking the pill, since it takes 30 days to be fully affective, and i've known a number of people who got pregnant while on the pill because they took antibiotics and it cancelled out the bc... but my sister is going through the same thing with her birth control pills, it really messed up her cycles and shes been on them for around two months

You can have plenty of spotting when getting used to taking a new pill. Use back up birth control for added protection and if you problem continues contact your Doctor. Your birthcontrol may not be right for you!

It could just be your body adjusting to the BC pills. BC pills help with abdomenal cramping and heavy periods, so it's pretty normal for you period to be lighter. I wouldn't concern yourself until you've missed a period completely. But hun, please wait for sex until you're married. Even accidents happen while on the pill. Don't have sex until you can provide a stable home for a baby and financially and emotionally support it.
