I'm forever getting smudges or gunk on my glasses, I've tried 'magic dot' and it was OK, but I try and wash them with soapy water once a day (but rarely remember!). What do you think is the best way of cleaning your glasses?

First and foremost, DO NOT use ANY kind of chemicals, whether it be rubbing alcohol or vinegar, to clean your glasses. There are coatings that are put onto your lenses (anti-scratch coatings, ultravioloet protective coatings, anti-glare coatings, etc...) that chemicals will destroy. The best way to clean any pair of glasses is with a mild solution of soapy water. Just a few drops of handsoap in a cup of water is all it takes. It is mild and will clean off anything. You can also find lens cleaning solutions at any optical store or optometrist's office. If you can, use a microfiber cloth to clean the lenses, it is soft and won't scratch them.

I like to use those special soft clothes for glasses. I used to clean my glasses with soap and water but since I bought the cloth about a year ago I havent did it since. You can get the cloth from lenscrafters, a pharmacy or a dollar store for inexpensive. What ever you do avoid cleaning or drying your glasses with tissue or toilet paper because it can causes scraches on your lenses. The special cloths are good for drying also if needed but if you use it alone it would be better. You can also take the cloths along with you when you need a quick cleaning on the go.

Yes, you can wash the cleaning cloths. When you do don't use fabric softener and let them air dry instead of putting them in the dryer. Never store the cloth wet. When your husband cleans his glasses, have him rinse the lenses under the tap and use mild soap to clean the lenses (Dial, Dawn etc..). Then use the spray and pat the lenses dry with the cloth. Don't use paper products (Kleenex, toilet paper, dryer sheets, paper towels) to clean or dry the lenses because this will scratch the lenses (even if you have scratch protection). A dish towel or old cotton T-shirt works to dry the lenses too. Never clean or wipe the lenses dry - if there's any dirt or debris on the lenses you'll just grind it into the lenses and scratch them (even if you have scratch protection). Don't use Windex or products with ammonia in them because this will degrade any scratch or antireflective treatment on the lenses. Sparkle is ok to use.

I know it sounds gross, but I lick them and then wipe and dry them with a clean cloth. Saliva is very good at breaking down oils and there is enough moisture in a lick to remove any large particles. It is easier and works just as well as any 'product'.

Edit - Don't dry glasses with paper towels. They will scratch. Only use cloth.

The best thing I have found, and I have been wearing glasses for a long time is Rubbing Alcohol. Pour a little bit onto a cloth and then rub the lenses. It will remove anything from the glasses, including hairspray, which is what is hardest for me to remove.

Run them under warm water, put some soap on your fingers and rub both sides, then rinse and use a lint free towel to dry them.

That's what they do at the eye doctor and it works better then cleaning clothes because it rinses the goo and dust away.
