I love wearing eyeliner, but find it really difficult to get that smoky-eyed look I'm after. When I put kohl in the lower inner rim of my eye it always ends up smudging out in no time and making me look like I've been punched by a chimney sweep (particularly as I always forget to pop to the loo to check my face regularly, leading to complete horror when I do make it!). Is this just what happens, or am I doing something wrong? All help gratefully received!

i absolutely love the way you worded your question, punched by a chimney sweep, wonderful.

Anyway, make sure the point of your liner is thin enough to have some good definition. I bought a spectacular cover girl eyeliner the other day that had a smudge sponge deal on the other end of the liner. I believe its called Perfect Point Plus. The sponge can be used to sucessfully smudge to get the smoky effect, not like ashes :)

Make sure your pencil is well sharpened (not too sharp though), and run it under your lashes on the bottom and on the rim at the top of your eye.

Use a cotton bud to smudge out, this will stop the eyeliner from bleeding and giving you that punched by a chimney sweep look ;-)

Give it a try! ;-)

sharpen the pencil to a point and get it as close to the eyelashes as possible.
rub away from the eye gently with a cotton bud
if you can carry it off then smudge some dark eyeshadow near to the eyeliner
it doesnt have to be a specific colour to look smoky, just get that smudged look and it will be great!!!

Put loose powder on first -- the eyeliner will cling to the powder better than to your bare skin.

You should also consider applying gray or black eyeshadow with an eyeliner brush -- you can get the same look without using a pencil. My daily eye-makeup is champagne base and then gold liner applied this way.

you need a better eyeliner its worth paying for it just try them out untill you get one thats right for you.
also get a liquid eyeliner to do above the top lashes and when its dry use a translusant powder to hold it.

also if you have blue eyes try using dark brown mascaras i do as black makes my eyes look grey.

hope ive helped!
