The best way to go about a self-piercing would be to educate yourself first. There are many websites that will tell you exactly what you should and more importantly, what you should not do, when you attempt a self-piercing. It's also important that you use the right equipment. Find a reputable online store that sells single piercing needles in pre-sterilized packages and the appropriate jewelry for the lip piercing that you decide on. Do not use a sewing needle and a standard earring; you will be very sorry if you do this.
As someone who has preformed a few self-piercing, I would say that you really should wait and get it done professionally. You may be able to do it yourself safely, but a lot harder than you think to get a piercing that's straight and looks astatically pleasing. When you turn 16, most professional piercing shops will pierce you with parental consent (unless your state has a law against)... so wait a few months, then when you turn 16 grab your step-mom and go get it done.
If you do decide that doing the piercing yourself, then make sure you get educated on the subject, and do it right. Don't end up being an example for why kids shouldn't pierce themselves.

You might want to rethink that.....read this!! You're just asking for trouble if you do it yourself!!! DON"T DO IT!!!
If you are considering piercing your tongue, lip or check consider these facts first:
This procedure can present considerable dental and medical risks. The dental dangers may be directly related to size of the piercing and the length of time worn Procedure-related risks:
Infection: is a possibility with any opening in skin or oral tissues. Since the mouth is teeming with bacteria, oral piercing carries a high potential for infection at the site of the piercing. Handling the jewelry once it has been placed increases the chances of developing an infection.
Prolonged bleeding: can occur when damage is done to the tongue's blood vessels.
Swelling and possible nerve damage: Swelling is a common symptom experienced after oral piercing. Since the tongue is in constant motion it can slow and complicate the healing process. It has been reported that some swelling due to tongue piercing have been serious enough to block the airway.
Blood borne disease transmission: of hepatitis B, C, D and G, and syphilis. Tetanus and tuberculosis are also a risk. The Institutes of Health has identified piercing as a possible route for the transmission of hepatitis.
Blood poisoning, toxic shock, septicemia, tetanus, AIDS, staph infections and sexually transmissible disease can be associated with oral piercing.**
Endocarditis: is a serious inflammation of the heart valves or tissues. The wound created during oral piercing provides an opportunity for oral bacteria to enter the bloodstream, where it can travel to the heart. This presents a risk for people who have cardiac abnormalities.

Not trying to sound snotty, but if you can't afford the measly $50 bucks it takes to get a piercing (yeah, I know you need to be 18, but there are people who will do it) then you can't afford the subsequent doctor bills you WILL get when you either paralyze your lip or get a nasty and not very sexy infection.
Also, did you know that facial piercings are always rejected by the body? That is to say that from the day you pierce your lip your body will try to reject it in one form or another. Some people get infections others skin heals in a fashion that eventually pushes the foriegn body from your face...resulting in a pretty little scar.
Also, if you are having to add the "half" to your 15....you don't quite sound ready to be making decisions that will decide what scars your face will have 20 years from now.
Do I sound like your un-cool Dad yet?

The best and fastest way to pierce your lip is to go to a PROFESSIONAL PIERCER and have them do it for you.
Self piercing is bad for a number of reasons; increased risk for infection, scarring, chances of heavy bleeding are high, increased pain and healing time, there is a good chance you will pierce it crooked too. Also, you need to remember you do not have the proper equipment to be piercing yourself, let alone the correct jewelry.
You also should never pierce yourself against your parents wishes, if it is going to piss off your dad...DONT DO IT. The last thing you want to do is ruin your trust and relationship with your dad. Believe me, I would know...I have not only tried to hide piercings a while ago, but I have also done them when my mother wished I hadn't. She has since forgiven me, but not all parents are like her.
If you dad is not convinced you can handle this, talk to him in a calm adult like manner. If you want to seem responsible, then act like it. You can also allow him to talk with the piercer so he can know that you'll be safe and taken care of. Also direct him to http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/What_Parents_Need_To_Know_FAQ
As far as labret, Monroe, Medusa, lip, snakebites; the type of piercing is really up to you. And you should only get the piercings you want. Never depend on others to do the thinking for you.
I wish you luck, but please, don't pierce it yourself...be safe and smart about it (that's step one to showing your dad you are mature and responsible)

heavily, i understand you're unwell of listening to this, yet get it professionally performed. I did it myself earlier, and in a count number of three days it replaced into contaminated. After that, I went and were given it performed professionally and it grew to develop into out large. Btw, getting your lip pierced does not damage. have self assurance me. you'll experience moderate rigidity, and also you may experience somewhat uncomfortable, even though it would not damage as undesirable as human beings say it does. <3

Just do not dot it yourself, it will hurt worse, you also can paralyze your lip and jaw if you were to hit a nerve, also you can get multiple infections. I would definetly go to a perfessional. One with a license to pierce.

You might be able to pierce it without your dad knowing, but he WILL know when you have to get treated for an infection.
Bad idea.
