prozac and sex?

I started taking prozac a month ago and just lost all of my interest in sex. I feel bad because I'm never really in the mood and don't know how to get myself going anymore. Nothing seems to work. I used to wake up in the middle of the night to have sex and now I just don't bother. What do I do to fix this?

I know this all too well! I to am on prozac which has been a huge help for my depression, but it is a side effect to lose your sex drive, I tell my dr. but he recommends nothing, but I have found out that I can enjoy sex with my husband if I just say alright and before I know it I am enjoying it again! So dont wait till u feel in the mood, believe me that does not happen much! But I cannot live with the depression I was in and nor could my husband he felt helpless, so I and him would rather have sex maybe not as oftten but he loves having a happier wife, and believe me even with meds I still have bad days, but I cope with them better also, my marriage is actually better! So relax enjoy the fact that u have done something others avoid doing taking care of a depression issue, your a better person for your mate happy and he I am sure wants u healthy and happy, just remember u dont always have to have sex to be intimate, but give in now and then keep your mate happy and I promise u will enjoy it, also one last thing the 1st 30 to 40 days are the hardest on prozac, you are just now really getting it stabilized in your system, and getting your seritoni levels stabilized.

Yes..SSRI's will inihibit sex drive and it is dose dependent. Nice thing about being a woman is that we usually make the call about sex anyway....If I feel like it's time for a date, I skip a day or two of pills so I can be more responsive. It doesn't effect my depression, since Prozac has long half-life. My psychologist suggested this and it has made a big difference. Check with your provider, however, before trying this.

Stop taking prozac?

There are many different medications you could take, some effect libido more than others. I took zoloft for a while which killed my sex drive. Then I switched to effexor, and my sex drive improved a lot (but still wasn't back to normal). Ask your doctor if another drug would be appropriate for you - they effect everyone differently.

I'm on Paxil, and it did that to me for about 1.5 months. Now everything's back to normal... you may want to wait another couple weeks? Ask your doctor, there are other depression/anxiety meds out there that have less sexual side effects.
