The elements have the tendency to react and form molecules with atoms of same or different elements because of their attempt to attain a fully filled outermost shell. An outer most shell containing 8 electrons is said to be octet. the atoms thus react to obtain an octet. This is done by sharing, losing or gaining electrons.

elements react because they are surrounded by electrons. Put very simply, this wants a full outer shell, so will steal or share from other elements. Sometimes this involves alot of energy and this is where you can see some quite impressive reactions.

Elements react to become more stable. They react using their electrons. Each has a certain number of electrons in the outer ring. They want to get to the number 8. It may mean losing electrons, or gaining electrons or if they are in the center of the periodic table sharing electrons.

every element, or atom is surrounded by electrons. these are what gives the atom its reactivity. all elements strive to gain a full outer shell of electrons, so try to do this by reacting with each other, and sharing electrons (covalently bonding to each other) to get a full outer shell.
