“Shane,” one of western movie buffs’ favorite classics, was written by a former Lakewoodite, the late Jack Schaefer. Was made into a movie.
"Small Steps" by Louis Sachar has not made it to the big screen yet.

Sadly, no, at least not since I last looked. 'Shane' is a lovely story and it certainly should be a movie. Louis Sachar's book 'Holes' is a movie, though not nearly a good as the book. I have not managed to read 'Small Steps' yet because it was terminally damaged when I left it on our kitchen table during our holiday. Our tank 'rained' on the kitchen for 4 weeks and the book was mouldy, sodden and unreadable, so I have not yet read it.

In my experience, my favourite books are not made into good movies very often. The only exception I can think of is 'Lord of the Rings'. Even that is far from perfect because so much is missed out!

Shane is a movie from the 1940's or 50's starring Alan Ladd. I never heard of the other one.
