example. 5y > 2x + 3
does the > change to < when i divide through by 5?

Signs change when you multiply by a negative number -- but do not change when you multiply by a positive number.

Division is just multiplication by the inverse -- so the same rules apply.

You do not change the sign when you divide by five. But you would change it is you divided by (-5).

The sign only changes when you divide by a negative number. Therefore when dividing by 5, the sign will not change, but when dividing by -5, it will.

You only need to change signs when dividing by a negative number.

The sign does not change as long as what you do to the right side you also do the the left side.
