I agree!!! Santana is "Da Man" and is clearly the best pitcher not only in the AL but in baseball right now. Trever Hoffman, at least in my mind, should have received the award in the NL. He had a million saves again plus he broke Lee Smith's all time saves record. I realize that there is the "Fireman" award for relief pitchers but it was still the best pitcher in the NL. I have a lot of concerns about the egg heads who run the voting. So many are completely out of touch with the game it's not funny.

Looking at the stats, I think Roy Oswalt actually had the best numbers. If you listen to Bill James and the rest of the statheads, the only three things you really have control of as a pitcher are strikeouts, walks and homeruns (maybe extra base hits). Wins and ERA: These are big time products of luck, especially wins. A lot of what goes into a win has nothing to do with the pitcher at all.
No NL pitcher was better at striking people out, not walking people and keeping the ball in the yard than Oswalt. He was the best pitcher (although not by much) and if the Astros had actually managed to win the Central, I think Oswalt would have gotten the Cy Young.

Nice pun! The voters miss the boat a lot over MLB history. Just look at the Gold Glove picks year in and year out. NL had a pretty shoddy lot and that's probably why. No one pitcher really stood out in 2006 in the NL.

Who should have won the NL cy young award? Webb was a fine pick. Look at this he is overall the best pitcher this year. Also he started the season like 8 and 0 that helped alot.

This is to the guy that responded with "look at the numbers." If you actually do look at the numbers, you'll find the following:
Webb (16-8) ERA 3.10 Ks 178 BBs 50
Carpenter (15-8) ERA 3.09 Ks 184 BBs 43
TECHNICALLY, Carpenter was better, and he really should have won the Cy Young Award this year.

I have no idea why...quite frankly.
Santana was a tough choice among many very good players.
Webb was an idiotic choice amongst many average players.
I do not believe Webb should have been selected. He had the worst ERA ever for a CY Young Award winner.

Santana is a stud and clearly almost unhittable. I know, my Sox play them 19 times a year. In the NL though, who should have won? Who do you think? It was a matter of opinion mostly this year compared to other years. I really have no problem with it, maybe Carpenter, but it was up for grabs.

Santana was right. Webb was, in my opinion, a candidate but not a winner. I guess they chose him because he has 16 wins and he basically carried his team.

No real clear cut pitcher in the NL. Lots of mediocrity.
