No space in the freezer, but there is space in refrigerator. If I buy a frozen turkey now (a week in advance), can I just put it in refrigerator for a week? Usually frozen turkeys have a long/in-the-future expiration date. Thanks

allrecipes.com has a video how-to that says 5-7 days in the refrigerator. I never leave mine in longer than 2 or 3 days.

Frozen turkeys have an expiration date far off in the future because things don't go bad quickly when they are kept frozen.

As far as keeping a frozen turkey in the fridge for a week, probably not such a good idea. Thawing time varies depending upon the size of the turkey, so the larger the turkey, the longer it would take to thaw. However, even if you have a 20 pound turkey, it would take about three days to thaw. You don't want to leave a thawed turkey in your fridge for several days, as it could give bacteria a chance to breed.

If you don't have room in your freezer for one now, I'd recommend waiting until Sunday or so before purchasing the frozen turkey. You would be pretty safe putting a frozen turkey in the fridge at that point without there being a large period of time for bacteria to breed.

No wait till Monday or Tuesday to buy it and only buy one that is frozen, it only takes 2 days to thaw out in the frig.
If you get one now it will spoil before Thursday- don't take any chances.

you should be okay .but try to put the turkey as close to the freezer in the refrigerator as possible. but you should check it 3 days before to make sure it is thawed out .& if not put it lower in the refrigerator

Place it in a bag with dried ice until 2-3 days before turkey day, but be sure to keep it in the frig, do you have a cooler at hand? store it there covered with ice. As the ice melts, replace it.
hope this helps!

Why not. It will take a while to thaw out anyway.

My wife always lets the turkey thaw in the refrigerator.

Not long till 44th anniversary.

Normally it takes 2 -4 days to defrost in the fridge anyway (depending on how often you open the door). That means it should be ready to cook sometime between Sunday and Tuesday. If you plan on brining it, that adds 1/2 to 1 day, or if you plan on rubbing it inside and out with spices and letting it marinate, you are golden on you choice of timing. I plan on pulling mine out Saturday, brining it Tuesday evening, rinsing and spicing Wednesday evening, and cooking Thursday morning. Happy Nibbling and Napping!!

Call me over cautious, but I cook A LOT, and I would never keep poultry thawing for a week. I'd find a meat store and order ahead for a fresh one.

not a very good ideea, a week is a little bit too much, maybe a 3-4 days will do but not more.
