I lost both of mine before I was born. I am 58 years old now and every time I think of them I feel regret and kind of cheated. I have the same name as my Dad's father and grew up feeling the connection.
You should ask your parents and other people who knew him all about him. Ask the little things like what got him mad, what made him laugh, what did he do for fun etc, etc...Learn as much as you can and you'll be surprised at just how close you can get to him.
Many people who have them, take them for granted, then thier gone and they are no better off than us.

Both of my fathers parents passed before i was born. Stories and memories can be larger than life. My daughter is 7yrs old. She lost her grandmother at 7months old. She wont have first hand memories. So, the family shares theirs. However, those tend to be one sided. You miss the "shadows" of your grandfather. Theres a possibility, the rest of the mans temperment ,outside of Grandma's eyes and her "rose coloured glasses", that he may have been a whole different story. Try asking more specific questions, and MORE family members opinions.

Yes my grandfather was 21 years older than my grandmother, he died 5 years before I was born. I wish i could have met him, it seems strange for my mother to talk about her father but to not have met him, it sucks!

Try and learn as much as you can of your granddad from your grandmother. She will love speaking of her partner and it will be good for the both of you. Also if you live close to where he is buried you may consider going to visit his graveside and pay your respects to him. While there you can always talk with him and let him know that you wish he was part of your life and tell him of events you think grandpa's would like to hear from their grandson's. This will help you immensely plus you will feel an attachment to him.

I did. Never knew him, but if he was anything like my father ,He was as wonderful and kind grandpa. My Grandmother was a sunday school teacher so I am thinking he must have been very religious. My father was also. I can't say that I miss him but I can say that if he were like my father I would, had I known him. God Bless.

At least you have a grandmother. All my grandparents except for one passed before I was born. I didn't see my grandmother all that much because I lived 8 hours away. She's now passed. So essentially, I really didn't know any of my grandparents. Consider yourself lucky.

You probably feel like you know him because you feel really close to your grandmother.
